IT was a hair raising experience when Howard and Joan Rogers and two pals decided to raise money for charity by spending a night in spooky Chingle Hall, Goosnargh, near Preston.

Hairdresser Howard, of Briercliffe, said: "We were discussing where to go for Christmas dinner and someone suggested we go to Chingle Hall and spend the night."

The Rogers were accompanied by Lorraine Walsh, a member of staff at Howard's, and her boyfriend Craig Fort.

When they contacted Chingle Hall they were asked if it was a charity event, which is when they decided to raise money for Christie Hospital.

Chrissie Barnes, stage name Chrissie Rey, was musical director for St James Players' Christmas production where Howard is a senior director. She died earlier this year from cancer.

Howard said: "We discussed it with Chrissie who said if we were daft enough to do it she would sort out Christie as the recipients.

"While being shown round by the guide we saw something which was like a flash from a camera but couldn't make out what it was.

"We raised £709 thanks to everyone who supported us and are hoping to go back again and raise money for either Burnley and Pendle Hospice or the East Lancashire SuperScan appeal."
