GREAT knocks from Scott Henderson 62 and Robert Bennett 66 steered Astley & Tyldesley to safety.

They were chasing Spring View's magnificent 214-2, which always looked a winning total.

But gritty A&T hung in for 189-6 at close of play and a fine draw.

There was a draw, too, for Atherton as they set Walshaw a 205-5 total. A superb 79 not out from Andy Hall and 43 not out from Philip Wakefield made up the bulk of the scoring.

In reply, Walshaw finished on 180-7 with Roy Faulkner the top scorer with 72. Steve Walsh (4-70) and Jonathan Hide (3-22) had excellent games in the field.

Edgworth's game with Golborne was abandoned.

Golborne 2nd beat Edgworth after the visitors collapsed, adding no more to their total after reaching 77-4. Chris Benbow took 3-32 and veteran Denis Ormshaw 6-25. Wayne Houghton hit 25 and Dicky Day 14 steered Golborne to victory.
