A TEENAGER who was engulfed in the flames of a petrol fire was taken back to a Manchester hospital - in a stretched limousine.

Gavin Gallagher, 15, of Sumner Street, Blackburn, was caught in the fire which started while he played with friends in a store compound in July.

He was treated at Booth Hall Hospital for burns to his arm and leg and has since been returning regularly for checks.

His mum Wendy felt he was due for a treat after bearing up so bravely to his ordeal, and immediately thought of his ambition to be given the VIP treatment in a limousine.

She said: "When I explained what had happened to Gavin the people at Top Cats Limousines said we could hire it free of charge which was very kind of them.

"It's something he has always wanted to do and he deserves it after what he has been through.

"I have had a lot of people asking me how Gavin is and I'd like to thank them for their concern.

"I would also like to thank the fire service, ambulancemen and police for all of their help and support during and after what happened to Gavin.

"I'd also like to say thanks to Top Cats for their kindness."

Gavin was joined by his mum, dad Paul and other family members for the special trip out in the limousine.

Police say investigations are continuing in connection with the incident.
