AN EAST Lancashire pop band are on top of the world after clinching £1,000 and free studio time in a competition for up-and-coming bands.
Energetic three-piece popsters Bluewaccadoslurpie!, who are relatively new to East Lancashire's music scene, won the Battle Of The Bands competition hosted by Chaplin's Music Bar, Burnley.
The band, whose sound is a mixture of punk and pop not unlike American underground legends Green Day, fought off stiff competition in the finals which were held over two nights.
The group overcame strong opposition from wacky Pendle popsters Element, spacey-sounding rockers Elfin and crossover act Gecko.
Other bands who made it through to the finals were Scapegoat, Thousand Star, The Accident and Earl.
Among the competition judges was Lancashire Evening Telegraph music writer Paul Barry, and you can read a full report of the action in the Pulse pages on Saturday.
