HAYDOCK suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Winwick in the TNT West Lancashire League's Beardsley Cup Final on Sunday.

Winwick had first use of the wicket and made 134-4. Pick of the Haydock bowlers were Paul Reid (1-14) and the evergreen Gerry Bentham (2-15)

In reply, Haydock were slow off the mark and lost early wickets. Chris Bridge (30) and Anthony Croston (36) put them back on track, but the innings fell short on 118-7.

The previous day Winwick first team were held to a draw by Billinge first.

Winwick batted first and made 112-8. In reply Billinge totalled 75-9, with Steve Middlehurst making 75-9.

Other Division One games saw Action win at Singlehurst and St Johns beat Salisbury.

In Division Two Haydock suffered a blow to their title hopes with defeat at the hands of Winstanley Park.

Winstanley Park made 110 all out as Paul Reid took 3-28 and Gerry Bentham 3-20.

Haydock then struggled to 61 all out, with only Mike Heaton (20) showing any real resistance.

IN the Sunday section Sutton's Martin Harvey hit 45 as his sided were all out for 105 against Joy Mining.

The Wigan side then reached the target for the loss of three wickets.
