IT'S been a weekend to remember for two Haydock cricketers.

First team star Billy Hurst has been selected to play for the National Lottery fun-raising XI, to meet Notts County Cricket Club.

It means he will be playing alongside the likes of former England Test batsman Robin Smith and Alex Morgan of Hampshire.

A club spokesman said: "Billy was chosen from an elite band and is looking forward to playing in such a top game.

"This is a shot in the arm for Billy and the club and is a reward for all the hard work Billy puts in to training." And second team player Scott Pickavance smashed a superb unbeaten 102 as Haydock reached 208-2 against Winstanley Park at Lyme Park.

Other notable contributions came from Derek Gibson (55 not out) and Barry Cross (33).

Such a big total would have tested any team. But Winstanley Park were up to the task and reached the target for the loss of four wickets.

Haydock's first team, meanwhile, also batted first at Winstanley Park.

And they made a great start. Barry Greenwood made an impressive 52, Dave Cross 51 and the in-form Billy Hurst 36 as Haydock chalked up 223-6.

In reply, Winstanley Park soon found themselves under pressure as Darren Matthews took 2-20.

Ian Brown, however, was Haydock's match winner as he claimed 4-37 as Winstanley Park were all out for 153.

Haydock's under 13s were in line to win their league this week if they could beat Orrell.
