A TEENAGE girl from Morecambe had to flee from arsonist(s) trying to burn her to death twice in one night this week. Kimberley Davies, 14, received emergency treatment for smoke inhalation after escaping the first fire attack in at her friend's home in a four storey block of flats on Marine Road. She was still recovering at her own home on nearby Grafton Street, just two hours later, when the arsonist struck again.

This time Kimberley helped free several other children, including her younger brothers, before undergoing further treatment for smoke inhalation.

Both fires were started in the same way. The criminal set fire to rubbish in the basement of the block of flats and ran off while the flames began to spread. And in both cases very young families had to be saved.

The brigade were first called out to Marine Road at about 8.50pm on Thursday night and led six people to safety. The firefighters then treated four of the victims for smoke inhalation, although they declined to go to hospital. The fire had spread to next door so, as well as evacuating the four flats at number 6, they too had to be evacuated.

And the squad at Morecambe Fire Station were amazed to find Kimberley when they were called out to an identical fire just two hours later. The house at Grafton Street had three storeys but the family had all managed to escape by the time the brigade arrived.

On the same night there was another fire on the site of the old Pontin's holiday camp where arsonists set fire to a number of card board boxes.

Sgt Paul Denney of Lancaster Police confirmed that police were investigating the fires. He continued: "Police and fire brigade officers had an initial investigation at the first fire on Marine Road. It was established that the fire was started in the front room and was of a suspicious nature.

"In the second fire on Grafton Road a fire was also deliberately started in the basement causing about £2,000 worth of damage. Anyone with any information should call us 63333."
