Barrow Border Raiders 12 Lancashire Lynx 21

FANS were treated to Raiders of the Lost Ark 2 as the Raiders from Barrow made too many mistakes and were out-thought, outclassed and completely out-run by Phil 'Indiana' Jones.

The stand-off, dubbed Indiana by the Lynx faithful, took advantage of some poor play by the Cumbrians to finish with 16 points.

Once again the Lynx started well and camped on the Barrow line for the first ten minutes, despite losing forward Jason Pekepo with a reoccurring ankle injury. However only one point, a drop goal by captain Andy Ruane, was all they were rewarded with.

Barrow then sent the travelling support quiet as they scored on their first attack.

Half-back Darren Carter sent the Lynx covering defence the wrong way as he scored a good try under the post. After an easy conversion by Atkinson, Barrow led 6-1.

It was from there that Jones took over. A mistake from the home side's play of the ball led to the ball spilling loose. Quick thinking Chris Kelly then booted the ball towards the try line where Jones scored.

He then added an excellent touchline conversion to put his side 7-6 ahead. Home cheers were then drowned out by taunts from the Lynx fans as Barrow had a try disallowed due to a knock-on.

However a penalty from Atkinson put the home side back ahead 8-7.

Phil Jones continued to impress combining with Kelly and Australian Steve Byrne who was playing well out of position in the centre.

Another mistake from the Raiders led to Phil Jones walking through the defence to score easily. He noticed a gap in the tiring defence to sprint ahead and grab a crucial try and a conversion which was backed up a minute later by a Jones penalty, 8-15.

In the last five minutes the teams each scored a try as Steve Byrne picked up a well deserved score.

Lynx now look odds on to reach Division One and require three wins from their last six games to win the championship.
