NERVES of steel and a head for heights are needed for Blackpool Tower's latest attraction.
The Walk of Faith invites intrepid members of the public to tip-toe over an area of the Tower 380ft above sea level - and all that stands between them and the ground is a sheet of glass.
Made up of two 25mm thick pieces of laminated glass, the idea is to give the impression of walking on air, but thrill-seekers are being assured that it can take the weight of five baby elephants.
And nine-year-old Katherine Shilston showed no fear as she posed calmly on the glass panel.
General manager Mark Osborne commented: "The Walk of Faith is an exciting addition to our existing attractions and provides a great challenge. It certainly isn't for the faint hearted."
In winning approval for the venture, owners of the Grade 1 listed building, First Leisure, held talks with English Heritage to ensure they did nothing to affect the Tower's status.
