ALMOST £1 million has been secured in the last year to back efforts to help the aerospace industry in East Lancashire.

Members of the Nelson-based Consortium of Lancashire Aerospace heard that hundreds of jobs had been safeguarded or created through a series of initiatives.

Chairman Dennis Mendoros, who was re-elected to his post at the annual general meeting, told the audience that the work of the CLA has increased dramatically over the five years since it was founded.

"The CLA is recognised throughout the world in every aerospace community as a dynamic and forward-looking organisation," said Mr Mendoros.

Mr Mendoros said targets for the coming year were to increase membership and help smaller companies join forces to tender for large contracts.

The group is currently preparing for its biggest ever presence at the Farnborough Air Show next month.
