SPEED humps just give added kicks to racing motorists, say residents of a Poulton danger road.

Householders in Dodgeons Close, used as a rat-run between two busy roads, are angry that traffic calming measures are being considered when they want the closure of one end.

Residents' spokeswoman Margaret Nodell said: "We had a site meeting at the end of March with Hilton Dawson MP, council officers and the police, when everyone agreed that the closure of one end would be the best option.

"Now we hear they're drawing up traffic calming measures like speed humps and road narrowing - we're just not prepared to accept that.

"These drivers use speed humps for fun, children can't play out and pensioners are frightened to walk down here - it's a road waiting for an accident to happen.

"Apart from that, it would cost more to have traffic calming than a simple road closure."

The residents have already raised three petitions for action and have Hilton Dawson's backing.

Wyre chief executive Michael Brown apologised to the residents for "a breakdown in communication."

Road closure was still being considered, but he had also asked for a traffic calming scheme to be drawn up and the residents would be fully consulted to ascertain their views when both schemes were ready.
