KEY Gateway routes are to be given a face-lift - marking a sign of the times for out-dated Bury.
For the first time since the Metropolitan authority was established in 1974, the boundary signs at entry points to the borough are to be up-graded and up-dated.
The change is part of the council's Gateway Strategy to make it clear to visitors they have arrived in the borough.
Preparation work for the new signs is to begin at prime locations around the borough this month.
Four signs are being erected in Prestwich, Radcliffe and Ramsbottom, three in Bury and two in Tottington.
Councillor Wayne Campbell, chairman of the development and environmental services committee, said: "We have fallen behind neighbouring authorities as far as signage is concerned and we believe there is a real need to give a favourable first impression to visitors."
