INVESTMENT continues to be pumped into Bury town centre with the news that £1.25 million is being spent on the town's latest retail park.

The project, to construct new retail warehouse units, is taking place at the Angouleme Way Retail Park.

This area is currently occupied by Argos, Poundstretcher and Texstyle World.

Building work is concentrated at the site previously occupied by a Do-It-All warehouse and involves the construction of premises of 30,000 sq ft net space.

The buildings will have the potential to be subdivided into smaller units to provide for a variety of retail users.

Architects Business Environments have been appointed by Aberdeen Asset Managers, who act as fund managers for the Scottish Provident Institution, to construct the new retail warehouses in the town centre.

Says Paul Javin, architect at Business Environments: "The changing profile of occupants for retail warehouse locations means that any accommodation must be flexible and suitable for a number of uses. "These may include selling sports equipment or as a large one-stop pet shop. The large DIY store design is not always suitable for these users and a more up-to-date design is needed."

The appointment also includes the creation of new vehicle access and the relocation of a local authority car park.

Quantity surveyors on the project are Bucknall Austin; engineers are White Young Green.

The Business Environments Group comprises economic development consultants, surveyors, architects, planners, environmental and landscape consultants and interior designers.

The Group operates throughout the UK on behalf of a wide range of public and private sector clients.

Projects range from small scale refurbishments to consultancy on the creation of international business parks.

This latest project maintains the momentum of large and long-term investment within Bury's bustling retail centre.

Over the last two years, more than £60 million has been pumped into the town centre, giving Bury a high public profile.
