WEST BROMWICH Albion have put a block on Paul Crichton's return to Burnley which will finally open the door for Tony Parks to make his League debut at Chesterfield tomorrow.

Clarets' boss Stan Ternent had hoped to have Crichton back in his ranks after the on-loan keeper's recall to the Hawthorns for their mid-week Worthington Cup tie.

But the Baggies are hanging onto the player as cover for first-choice Alan Miller as the 24-hour recall clause they used this week may not be so readily available next time.

Ternent explained: "They wouldn't let us have him back because the Football League say it might make it a bit more difficult to take him back if the other keeper is ill again, as it is a recurring problem."

Ternent made a last-ditch swoop to recruit Crichton for last Saturday's season opener against Bristol Rovers.

But that's not likely this time so Parks is therefore set to continue in goal after making his first senior appearance for the club in Tuesday night's cup clash at Bury.

"He did well the other night and there's no reason why he shouldn't do the same again. I am quite pleased with him but I just need competition," said Ternent. He will therefore continue his search for a second senior keeper but that will go on the backburner while there are more pressing matters to deal with at Saltergate tomorrow.

Last Saturday's two-goal hero Andy Payton is set to return after sitting out the trip to Gigg Lane as a precautionary measure following a hamstring injury.

"He will be in the squad and I will have a look at him," said Ternent who is at least well served in the striking department with Ronnie Jepson, Kevin Henderson and Colin Carr-Lawton all getting a taste of the action on Tuesday night.

There will also be a change in central midfield with Neil Moore ready to replace Michael Williams after an impressive showing in an unfamiliar position in the second half of Burnley's draw at Bury.

"He did well the other night. I reckon he can play there and he looked comfortable," said Ternent.

Moore has always been good on the ball and his defensive qualities will be an asset against a Chesterfield side that is always a tough proposition in their own back yard. They lost just three times at home last season-while Burnley won only three times away - an area pinpointed for massive improvement by the new management team at Turf Moor. "This will be a right good test for us," stressed Ternent. "Chesterfield are one of the fancied sides. John Duncan has been there a while and has some good players."

Second Division Lincoln equalled their club record fee when they paid £75,000 to Bury for striker Tony Battersby. The 22-year-old has been on loan at Lincoln for the last week and has signed a three-year contract.
