A COUNCIL boss is "looking into" a town hall e-mail mix up after councillors received a mystery message sent by one member of staff to another.

A member of staff from the rights, advice and entitlements department e-mailed a colleague saying "Oops - he hasn't gone yet but apparently it is going really well. Have you got the sick bucket at hand?"

But the message found its way to the computers of several councillors - including Coun Gail Barton, chairman of the finance committee.

She later sent back a reply to the sender of the e-mail saying: "I hope HE hasn't read this!"

The director of rights, advice and entitlements George Campling sent an apologetic message to all of the people who received the e-mail by mistake.

It said: "I apologise for the message you received from a member of my staff. It was apparently sent to more people than intended.

"I am investigating both how this came to happen and also the content of the message itself."

When told that copies of all three e-mails had been sent to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph anonymously Mr Campling said an investigation was "too strong" a word to use and he was merely "looking into" the episode.

He added: "I don't know what the message is about. But this is a case of somebody pressing the wrong button and more people receiving an e-mail than intended.

"Messages should not be sent on matters that do not involve work."
