A ROSSENDALE rescue team which helps people all over Lancashire is appealing for people to take part in a fund-raising sponsored walk around Pendle.

Rossendale Search and Rescue Team recently held its annual Rossendale Way In A Day, sponsored by brewer Theakston, which raised £2,500 and saw more than 200 walkers tackling the 46-mile or shorter 24-mile course around the Valley.

The team is now getting into gear for the Pendle 12km sponsored walk on October 18 and is looking for a local business to sponsor the challenge. The fun day attracts groups, schools, families and individuals.

Events co-ordinator Barry Robinson said: "The team is increasingly being called upon to search for lost or missing people and to rescue injured or ill walkers and climbers.

"It is because of this that we need the public's help and support to raise funds to enable us to continue our work. The trek will also benefit a wide range of other organisations as entrants can give half of the sponsorship money raised to the charity of their choice.

"A main sponsor of the event would also be welcome to assist with the administrative costs attached to the walk."

Money raised from the events will be used towards the £15,000 needed each year to maintain and run the team.

Entry and sponsorship forms, and more information, can be obtained from Helen Ellis on 01706 217371 or 0161 797 8218.
