MORE than a third of East Lancashire employees are now involved in an initiative aimed at improving Britain's workforce.

Figures revealed today show that more than 63,748 local workers are employed by companies who have achieved or are working towards the Investors in People standard.

The latest statistics have also revealed that almost half of all East Lancashire manufacturing companies are now involved with IIP.

And 76 per cent of the companies employing more than 200 people are involved with the standard.

Chief Executive of the East Lancashire training & Enterprise Council, Mark Price, today said that IIP was having a significant impact on the local economy.

"The many employers who have already taken part believe it has helped improve their businesses significantly." IIP is a national standard which sets a level of good practice for the training and development of employees to achieve business goals.
