LICHFIELD 15 PRESTON GRASSHOPPERS 30 HOPPERS made it two wins from two games, but the final margin of victory was disappointing after a whirlwind start had suggested that a runaway victory was on the cards.

A first-minute try for Martin Emmett was the reward for some excellent support play.

Emmett converted as he did in the 7th minute when Michael Lough crossed under the posts for Hoppers' second try.

In between, an Antcliffe penalty had given Lichfield hope but Hoppers were well on top.

A penalty for Emmett was the next score before Hoppers suffered a blow when skipper Neil Ashton left the field with a thumb injury.

As the first half drew to a close, Ian Ashton claimed Hoppers' third try after good work by the forwards and again Emmett added the extra points.

Although Hoppers were in command it was not until 10 minutes from the end that they were able to put further points on the board.

An Emmett penalty was the method, but the score provoked the home side into their best spell of the game.

A try for centre Gray was their reward for a period of pressure.

Although Hoppers immediately hit back with a third penalty for Emmett it was the Staffordshire side who had the last laugh.

A try for Parker converted by Antcliffe gave the scoreline a final look which was poor reward for Hoppers' territorial domination.

On Saturday, Hoppers embark on the Tetley Cup trail with a visit from Midland Division One side Kenilworth, kick off 3pm.
