PLANS for a £25,000 roller blading park at Hoyle playing field on the Chesham Fold estate have been supported by Bury Council.

The project has excited local youngsters and they are heavily involved in its development.

A group of them met recently to decide on a name, they came up with the imaginative Blader's Dreams Park.

Chesham Fold Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) is overseeing the scheme.

Recently TMO assistant treasurer Victor Hagan met with Bury Council buildings and facilities officer Mr Brian Gauden at the proposed site to discuss the project.

And a plan showing the design of the planned facility has already been drawn up.

Bury Council has made land available for the roller blading park and the TMO will be responsible for funding.

Borough head of client services, Martin Hall, said: "I understand that the TMO has organised various fund-raising events to pay for the building and running of the skate park. "Although every effort will be offered by my staff with this proposal, I cannot commit any funding from the current year's budgets. But we will assist as much as we can within our resources.

"There is a big demand throughout the town for roller hockey and roller blading facilities and a draft scheme for the site has already been put together.

"A skate park at Hoyle playing field would enhance youth facilities and would be used by people throughout the borough.

"We have also met with a Rochdale highways surfacing company to establish the type of material needed to surface the skate park and how much this work would cost.

"I would anticipate the surfacing contract to be subject to a tendering process."

Mr Hagan said: "The scheme is for Chesham Fold, East Ward and the whole of Bury. It will give young people something creative to do.

"But parents must get behind it and show their support. They must realise what an important role they have to play and that we can't do anything without them.

"We want parents, children, charities and businesses to call in or phone the TMO office to register support."
