DREAM homes will mean nightmares for walkers.

So says rights of way guardian Derek Taylor - a former Tyldesley UDC councillor and now secretary of the Peak and Northern Footpaths Society - who fears the loss of more trails around his home town.

He has protested to planners about the Council's application to designate part of the former Cleworth Hall Colliery site for housing.

In a letter to Borough Planning Officer John Sloane he said:"It is inevitable footpaths Tyldesley 57 and 58 will be lost in the development, probably on to estate roads, which situation is to be deplored.

"If building continues at the present rate in Tyldesley the effect on rights of way are almost too dreadful to contemplate."

The Peak and Northern Footpaths Society objects to the proposals for land off Manchester Road because it claims rights of way would again be lost for public use.

Mr Sloane told Radway resident Val Henn, who expressed concern about the future of a pathway at the rear of her home, he was unaware the path would be affected by the proposals.

Planners approved residential development on the land which was part of the Cleworth Hall Colliery reclamation scheme.
