A ONE-day conference on domestic violence has been organised by an Asian women's group.

The event, organised by the Sahara group, will give women from ethnic minority groups the opportunity to discuss information already available and plan for the future.

The police, social services, Preston Council, Lancashire County Council and the Preston Women's Refuge have all helped Sahara, based at Fishwick Parade, Preston, to arrange the conference.

It will be held in the Sharoe Green Building of the University of Central Lancashire on November 3.

Guest speakers will include Police Constables Keith Little and Lisa Ingham, Senior Practitioner Pauline Garrity, and Senior Housing Officers Bev Lyons and Louise Ashworth.

Several workshops will also run throughout the day. A Sahara spokeswoman said: "The Zero Tolerance campaign was launched in 1995-1996 and increased public awareness of the issues of domestic violence and voluntary agencies like Sahara have identified the need to facilitate dialogue to establish the level and type of needs for minority ethnic group women.

"The aim of this latest conference is to raise awareness of the issues of domestic violence issues on the lives of Asian women and examine the response of service providers."

If you would like to take part, applications must be submitted by Monday (September 21). Call Sahara on 01772 702090 for an application form.
