Bold Miners 62 Salem Hornets nil BOLD went on a points spree to go clear at the top of the league.

Teenager Lee Bednarzic opened the scoring after only four minutes when he sidestepped through the Hornets defence for a great touchdown, Ian Marsh added the goal. Further tries by Chris Burgess, Gareth Hill, Nick Joseph and Ste Prole, with Marsh adding three goals, widened the lead for the Miners.

Then came the try of the game from loose-forward Ian Marsh who received the ball inside his own half evaded four defenders to break clear and race 50 yards in the corner, then he added the conversion right off the touchline to make the score 38-0 in favour of Bold at half time. Although the Miners were showing some delightful attacking rugby in poor conditions, it was their tenacious tackling led by Dave Davies, Brian Connaire and Lee Bednarzic that kept Salem out of the game.

Gareth Hill scored a second half hat trick of tries, with Dave Scott and Alan Haunch scoring a try each with Marsh adding four goals to complete the scoring.

Ian Marsh took the Grundy Excavations man of the match award in a brilliant team performance.
