York Acorn 18 Blackbrook 18 AN injury time drop goal by 'Daz' Callaghan robbed Brook of victory.

And it was Callaghan, who started the scoreboard ticking over with a fourth minute penalty goal. But Blackbrook rounded off some enterprising football in the midfield with a try by Darren Mitchell - playing in the unaccustomed role of full-back.

Darren Mitchell, Damien Clitheroe, Phil Smith, Dave Ryan and Company had too much fire-power in the early stages and the homesters early challenge, had been snuffed out. Brook extended their lead to 12 points with a converted try and a penalty goal by scrum-half Alan Fletcher.

However, Brook's first half superiority was tarnished by an uncharacteristic defensive lapse in the 42nd minute. Callaghan made the crucial breakthrough for the homesters with a diagonal run in the midfield and a well judged kick to the corner which centre Frank Embleton gratefully accepted to score in the corner.

Acorn wingman Barry Fox crossed in the corner. Callaghan reduced the deficit to two points at 12-14 with a superb touchline conversion.

Minutes later, Callaghan regained the initiative for the homesters with a try and a drop goal to put them 17-14 ahead.

But with barely five minutes remaining Brook hit back strongly with a superb touchline break by Darren Mitchell with Alan Barker in support and the wingman regained the lead from the visitors with a try in the corner.

However, in the dying seconds Daz Callaghan snatched a share of the spoils.
