LANCASTER and Morecambe police have issued an appeal to the public to help them in the war against crime. Police concerns are growing after a sharp increase in the number of break ins from cars of day-trippers in the countryside in the area, traders' vehicles, and sheds and outhouses in recent weeks.
"There's two or three thefts from vehicles coming from the 'beauty' car parks around our area every other day," said DS Jim Duncan of Lancaster police. "A lot of expensive items are being taken and we urge the public to either leave their equipment at home or take it with them. Whatever you do, don't leave anything on display in your car."
Meanwhile criminals have targeted traders' vehicles in the area - especially in Bowerham where there has also been a spate of power tool thefts from sheds (£2,250 worth on Monday night).
