A MAN who founded a print firm has stepped in to help save 30 jobs six years after handing the business over to a management buy-out team.

Peter Scott came out of virtual retirement to take over as director responsible for sales at Peter Scott (Printers) Ltd, Burnley, this week after the troubled company was bought from the receivers by Scott Trade Printers Ltd.

Mr Scott started his printing business in the front room of his home, turning out business cards.

He then moved into an old chapel before taking over premises in Darnley Street, Burnley, where in 1989 he saw the by then multi-million pound business go up in flames.

The company then moved to the present premises in Belshaw Court, Billington Road, Burnley. Following Monday's purchase the company will continue to trade as Peter Scott Printers but with a new management and sales team.

Mr Scott said: "It's a good feeling to be back and I'm looking forward to being involved in the direction and successful future of this company.'' Stephen Tasker is taking charge of day-to-day operations as managing director. Three new sales personnel have also been taken on.

Mr Tasker said: "We have acquired Peter Scott Printers with a view to expanding the trade side of our business operation.

"We are very much back in business and are looking to keep the whole of the workforce, many of whom have worked for Peter Scott previously and some over many years.

"The amount and quality of equipment would justify a bigger workforce. We have to utilise the capital equipment and are going all out for sales. We intend to make the company fly.''

The company went into technical receivership on Monday and was bought immediately by Scott Trade Printers who are paying staff wages unpaid the previous week.

Mr Tasker said a substantial investment had been made not only in the purchase of the company but in the input of management resources and skills.

Following the management buy-out six years ago Mr Scott remained as a remote director but had no involvement in the operation of the company.
