A BLACKPOOL Territorial Army soldier is aiming to score more than £5,000 as he marches to Glasgow's Ibrox Stadium - home of Rangers.

Tom Houston (pictured) will be setting off from Blackpool at the start of October and will walk quick-time to Ibrox in just 12 days.

He hopes to raise £5,000 on the way for the Cancer Research Campaign as his seven-month-pregnant wife has been involved in a cancer scare.

He said: "Cheryl hasn't got the all-clear yet and I lost my cousin who lived in Glasgow to cancer last year.

"I'll set off down the A6 from Garstang Road with my 50lb pack and will bivvy down each night.

"The regiment will provide me with rations and I hope to do about 25 miles each day.

"I'm in training now but it will be tough, especially with blisters, walking so far each day."

Tom is hoping to co-ordinate his fundraising walk with Rangers Football Club.

He will set off on October 5 to arrive at Ibrox as his favourite team is playing.

Tom added: "I'm hoping to hear back from Rangers very soon. It would be great if we could organise a collection up there or get people selling pink ribbons."

But does he think he can complete the massive 300 mile trek? "Oh yes," he chirped enthusiastically, "when you join the Territorial Army, you get trained to survive in the wild, so I think I should be fine."
