ROCKET Rob Speak is a legend in his own lifetime.

The Tyldesley stock car supremo roared to his seventh Formula 2 world title at Swindon.

And that made five successive world final wins for the sport's most successful driver.

Rob was never headed, even though the rest of the field was allowed to close up after four stoppages due to crashes.

Leek's Bert Finnikin got close enough to touch bumpers, but Speak held on to win with Finnikin as runner-up.

The victory extended Speak's record number of wins.

Only once since 1991 - that in 1993 when he crashed - has he failed to win the Formula 2 World Final.

DOG racers have switched dates for the winter. Astley & Tyldesley Miners Welfare Whippet and Dog Racing Club now meet on Saturdays at 1pm at the Gin Pit club. Details on 01942-793681.
