Leigh Miners A 30 Pilkington Recs 24 RECS lost this contest after being drawn into a physical midfield encounter by their more experienced opponents.

But Recs made a great start when drives from props Stu Wilson and Graham Cranney set up the position for Shaun Allen to put loose-forward Mike Dennett in for a try.

Five minutes later a spilled bomb saw Miners take a two points lead through a converted try. Recs struck back, running the ball on the last tackle and good work from Craig Burrows and Dennett enabled centre Andy Traverse to round the full back to score. A Craig Burrows penalty goal soon after extended Recs' lead .

During the next 15 minutes poor handling and ill discipline saw Recs constantly defending as Miners crossed for three tries, two of which were converted.

The second half saw Recs in determined mood until a forced pass saw Miners punish a further Recs error with a try wide out.

Good quick hands and running from Andy Traverse saw wingman Jeff Albin finish well for a try wide out. Just as Recs seemed to be improving their play, further errors saw Miners cross for another unconverted try wide out, to restore their 16 points lead.

Clearly the fitter side Recs were finishing the stronger and15 minutes from time Andy Traverse powered in for his second try. Second row men Neil Morris and John Meadows were getting through a lot of work both in attack and defence and some of their good work set up a good position for Burrows to launch a towering bomb which was spilled and Mike Dennett helped himself to a second try. Substitute Steve O'Neill added the conversion.

The Sutton Moss Boarding Kennels man of the match was Mike Dennett, with good contributions from Cahelin, Cranney and Andy Traverse. Recs A 14 Warrington Bank Quay 38

Recs second string are finding life tough in Division Six. However the scoreline flattered the visitors.

Home tries were scored by Nigel Dawson, Bob Pickersgill and Kilmurray, with one goal from Keith Grimes.

The man of the match award went to strong running Dawson, closely followed by John Rees and Kilmurray. Veterans Arthur Manning and John Smith tried hard to inspire Recs.
