SIR, - IT amazes me the way politicians at all levels can so easily contradict themselves and carry on as though there is nothing wrong.

Take, for example, the decision to close nursing homes throughout the county by Lancashire County Council - including Clifton House in Lytham.

The reason? County Councillor (for how much longer, we'll have to wait and see) Doreen Pollitt said that the freeing of these homes was necessary "to arrange care for our growing population of older people."

Makes sense doesn't it?

Closing down six homes in Lancashire will help care for the growing population of older people will it?

While they're at it, why don't they get rid of police stations to tackle growing levels of crime.

The reasons quoted by councillors for their decisions are nothing short of ludicrous.

Why haven't we been told what care for the elderly will consist of in the future?

And where will the money from the sale of the homes end up?

They could at least be honest with the taxpayers and tell us why they can't afford to keep the homes open and sell off assets - and where all the money has gone, besides administration.

I think that there's only one way to make sure it doesn't happen any more in the future and that's to start taking an interest in politics.

Voters should make a note of whose name they put a cross next to on election day and afterwards make sure that they let the successful councillor know what is expected from them.

Don't be fobbed off by ludicrous statements such as that of Councillor Pollitt.
