IT IS not every season the bad weather interferes with fixtures so early.

But on Saturday four St Helens Combination games were called off because of waterlogged pitches.

In the St Helens Star Premier Division, The Anchor with goals from Ian Partington (2), Gary Ball and Paul Managan gave Shoe FC no rest to win 4-0. Rainford North End went under 2-3 at home to keep Rifle FC on a 100 per cent status.

John Green helped himself to two goals as East Sutton Labour outfought Engine FC to win 6-2. In Division One. Clock Face Miners Welfare just proved too good for Sidac Social in a 3-1 home win, but Junction were outplayed, going under 1-6 at home to the young Penlake outfit.

Old Congs (Haydock) missed a late penalty that would have equalised a 1-2 deficit at Carborundum, but the goals scored by Paul Sinnot (2) proved to be the winners.

Billinge just held out to defeat Haresfinch Social 3-2 but Wheatsheaf just went down 3-4 at Child Reserves. New club Agrevo in Division Two put up a good show at Nutgrove but experience told, with Whitfield scoring twice in a 5-2 win for Nutgrove. Hall Street Union were decisively held 1-1 at home by Sportsmans and Eccleston United forced a 3-3 draw at Pilkington A, Pilks goals coming from Devlin, Kenny plus an own goal. Another 3-3 draw was the game at Earlestown between Trees FC and West Bank. Clock Face Miners Welfare Reserves made it a club double with a 5-4 win at Bull and Dog.

In Division Three, Bewsey Athletic were leading 1-0, as they have done for the third game in succession, but were finally sunk 1-8 at home by Broad Oak.

Gerard Arms Reserve side were too hot for Cowley Hill Park and won 8-3 at Ecclesfield.

In the Sunday Section, three clubs were engaged in LCFA Sunday Intermediate Cup first round games, they proved 100 per cent successful as Ex Services Rainhill whipped Braudie 5-0, Warburton Hey held out to beat Decast 6-4 away from home and Rose and Crown were too good for Allys over 40s FC, winning 5-1 away.

In League games, Oddfellows held out to beat Owens Corning 3-2 but neighbours Toll Bar went under 1-4 at home to West Sutton Labour in the new Premiership and in Division One Hammer had a 5-0 away win at Bispham Celtic. Victoria went nap, 5-0, at home to Warrington new side Racing Rylands Rovers FC. Penlake made it hat-trick of naphands with a 5-0 away thumping of Sutton Heath Panthers. RESULTS
