CHARITY trekkers put on their hiking boots for the annual sponsored walk across Morecambe Bay on Sunday, September 13.

More than 120 energetic walkers took part in the eight-mile sponsored walk from Arnside to Kent's Bank in aid of Bury Hospice.

Support was given from the mayor, Councillor Connie Fitzgerald, who waved off the two coach loads on Sunday morning.

And the deputy mayor Councillor Roy Walker, and his wife Kathyrn, braved the wet weather to join the team.

Mrs Margaret Robinson, hospice fund-raising co-ordinator, said : "It was actually a beautiful day and all the people who took part had a great time."

She added: "We are very grateful for all the support and look forward to people joining us next year - once they have rested their weary feet!"

It is not yet known how much money was raised but organisers will be making an announcement once all the sponsorship money has been collected.
