LEIGH'S final home game of the season dissolved into a frantic race against the elements.

But, inevitably in this miserable summer, the rain won.

Leigh needed victory to maintain their slender hope of the title, Bolton needed to win to secure a place in Division One.

The final 5pm deluge brought to a sad end what should have been an intriguing contest.

Aussie Kane Kersnovske's last innings for Leigh proved disappointing with just five runs from three overs.

But his contribution of nearly 750 runs and 40 wickets was memorable.

Leigh closed at 144-9 with Andy Mullaney hitting 66 in 71 balls - mostly into the tennis courts.

And that was that!

On Saturday Leigh close the season with a trip down to Worsley.

THE final Saturday of the Vimto Bolton Association season ended in a waterlogged washout.

Not one ball was bowled in any of the seven matches.

But Adlington had already been crowned champions for the first time since 1987.
