LIFE in a nursing home keeps 100-year-old Clara Riley going. She likes to keep an eye on the staff as much as they enjoy caring for her!

Clara celebrated her hundredth birthday with a family get-together at the Longshaw House Residential Home, Crosby Road, Blackburn.

After receiving her telegraph from the Queen, Clara, formerly of Tockholes, was joined by distant cousins who travelled to celebrate with her.

Local entertainer Eddie Carter led a rousing sing-song to mark the big day.

Care assistant Tanya Wilding said: "Clara treats the home like her own. She's always keeping an eye on us and wanders around the place like she's the boss!

"She enjoys walking in the gardens and we help her get out and about as much as she can, although she is getting a little frail."

Clara moved into the home in 1990 after the closure of Warren Holt nursing home, where she used to live.
