Edith Butler has lived through the days when Queen Victoria was on the throne and cotton was still king in Lancashire.

This week she shared her hundred years of memories with the five generations of her family who helped her celebrate her century.

Edith reached the grand old age of 100 on Wednesday and got a special cuddle from the youngest member of her family, great-great-grandson baby Joshua Barlow.

She was born at White Hall Farm, Brinscall, and christened at Westlyn Chapel.

Edith started work at the age of 12, half a day in the cotton mill and studying for half a day at school.

She married George Whalley of Red Lea farm, Tockholes, and they started farming at South Marl Pitts Farm, Brier's Brow, Wheelton, in 1924.

From there Edith took butter and eggs to Chorley Market which was held under the town hall.

She has four children, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.

Edith is a resident at Old Gates Nursing Home, Feniscowles, where her family went to wish her a happy 100th birthday.
