IN your editorial (LET, September 22), you say that Clinton's great ability as a statesman should not be outweighed by the fact that he has been shown to be a liar, a cheat and a sex maniac.

Perhaps these qualities, in some measure or another, are essential for a politician - and then maybe we should not be surprised that so many American presidents have been assassinated.
