SCHOOLS could soon be linked across Blackburn and Darwen via the internet.

Contracts will be awarded to a company to fit equipment in December using grant money plus £150,000 set aside by the borough council, and systems could be ready by March 1999.

Council chiefs have won £300,000 from the government to pay for the project under the National Grid for Learning Network scheme.

Community centres, council access points and libraries will also be linked up to the network while schools and Blackburn College will have a direct link to the town hall.

The council's education and training committee will discuss the plans tomorrow.
