A ONE-YEAR-OLD baby girl was thrown through a car window into a busy main road and amazingly escaped with just cuts and bruises.

Nafisa Ali bounced on the carriageway after the collision between a BMW driven by her uncle Syluk, 48 and a Peugeot in Bradford yesterday .

The impact of the crash caused the BMW to somersault across the road. It avoided the rest of the traffic, but smashed into a lamp post.

Nafisa, of Johnston Street, Blackburn, was catapulted through a window and landed 50 feet away in the middle of the road.

Amazingly she escaped with minor cuts and bruises.

Mr Ali suffered a broken pelvis and was trapped in the wreckage for 20 minutes before he was freed by firefighters. He was talen to Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Her mother, Sarina Bi, 26 and another relative Mohammed Yaser, 19, were also being treated at the hospital today .

Eyewitness Susan Jest comforted the youngster until ambulance crews arrived. She said: "I saw a white blob in the the road and realised it was a baby.

" Two other women were trying to comfort her. She was trying to lift her headand crawl through the glass so we slid a blanket underneath her and waited for the paramedics to arrive."

Fire Station officer Barry Roberts said: "When we arrived you could smell the petrol. It would have only taken a small spark and the whole lot would have gone up in flames with the driver trapped inside."

The two men in the Peugeot escaped with minor injuries and police have appealed for witnesses. Police said the Blackburn family was travelling towards Shipley.

Nafisa's cousin, Sameenah, said today: "I heard that she was extremely lucky.

"She was thrown through a car window and has only got cuts on her face. She is due out of hospital today and will be staying with her grandmother for a few days."
