DEFENCE boss George Robertson is to visit British Aerospace's Samlesbury site tomorrow.

The Secretary of State for Defence is taking time out from the Labour Party conference in Blackpool to tour the site where more than 4,000 aerospace workers are employed.

As well as touring production areas where work on the Eurofighter Typhoon has started, Mr Robertson will be looking at BAe's 'Virtual University'

The initiative links BAe's sites to universities and research organisations to offer employees courses close to their work.

"We are delighted that the Defence Secretary could find time in his busy schedule to visit," said Chris Rogan, BAe's head of education.

"It gives us an ideal opportunity to demonstrate how our learning and development programmes are addressing the current and future needs of state of the art projects such as the Eurofighter Typhoon."
