MOTOR mad Aidan Venn could be on track to win a scholarship to the world's only motor sport university.

Aidan has been driving for only two years, but has won a place in the Elf Fastrack finals in Le Mans tomorrow.

The 22-year-old of Harpers Lane, Fence, wants to make a career in motor racing.

He will be one of 10 finalists in the competition in France which will be judged by the four times Le Mans 24-hour winner Henri Pescarolo along with Rob Murphy, chief instructor at Silverstone and Jason Plate, a racing driver with the Williams Renault touring car team.

Silverstone was the venue for the three-day competition when Aidan won through to the final.

He said: "I worked in computers but my marketing contract finished so I have been spending the time getting ready for the race.

"I want to be a racing driver and I will go as far as I can get. I already have two sponsors, Trevon Industrial Coatings, Colne, and Pendle Karting.

"I race small Formula One cars and I am second in the championship with one round to go.

"Last year I was runner-up in the Elf Fastrack final and this year I am hoping to go one better."

If Aidan is one of the two winners he will be awarded a scholarship, worth the equivalent of £100,000, to the Elf La FiliM- re, the world's only motor sport university. Elf corporate communications manager John Thompson said: "A year's experience at Elf La FiliM- re is unbeatable.

"It is the best opportunity any talented young hopeful could have of making the breakthrough into motor racing."

But Aidan is very candid about his chances of hitting the big time.

He said: "You never know with this sport -- it's all about money. Ninety per cent is about money and ten per cent is about talent."
