NEWCASTLE winger Keith Gillespie could well be the next transfer target for Blackburn Rovers.

If the Dion Dublin deal was to go through, it would make sense for Rovers to bid for a direct right winger who could provide the necessary crosses.

Ewood chief executive John Williams would not comment on any speculation, saying only: "We have not had any formal contact with Newcastle about any players."

Gillespie is certainly available and was almost sold to Middlesbrough for around £3 million in summer.

He is also fit again after injury problems and was a substitute for the Geordies in their Worthington Cup win at Tranmere last night.

Should the Dublin deal fall through, Rovers are expected to move for another striker but have not yet made any inquiries, preferring to concentrate on their first choice.
