CHILDREN composed a song to tell their school site supervisor how much he would be missed.

Frank Manning retired as caretaker at St Joseph's RC School, Stacksteads, after working there for 10 years.

Head teacher Mrs Margaret Donnelly said: "All of the children remarked about how much they will miss his welcome as they came into school and how he would always help anyone. The staff will miss his brews because he would always make brews for the teachers at break time!"

A special buffet lunch was organised by staff and at an assembly the children sang a special song they had composed for him.

They also recited poems written to explain how much he meant to them and he was presented with engraved crystal glasses, a bottle of whisky, a meal voucher, camera and other gifts.

At the school he was responsible for cleaning the building, school security, heating, emergencies, and keeping the grounds litter free.

Mrs Donnelly said Mr Manning also put in a lot of extra hours at the school.

The new site supervisor is Kenneth Barnes who started yesterday.
