I WONDER if the English cricket followers and observers of the game realise what a jewel in the crown we have unearthed in Andrew Flintoff.

Surely as he matures, this young man will dominate not only the English county scene, but, with the luck every player needs, do the same at international level.

It is too soon to compare him with one of the greats, Ian Botham, but even he could not have made the scoreboards turn much faster.

Attacks will come to fear him as time rolls on. His forte is striking the ball with tremendous power.

A team-mate said to me: "When he is on song, he is awesome." Who am I to argue with that?

His score of 158 against Gloucestershire - with his century coming off just 61 balls and him hitting nine sixes and 24 fours - says it all, I think.
