MARK Robertson looks set to continue his burgeoning career at Turf Moor.

The midfielder returned home to Australia for the summer and got married on Saturday.

He is now on honeymoon in Fiji but will return to Burnley by the end of the month.

And it appears likely that he will accept the terms of a new contract offered by Clarets boss Stan Ternent in time to start pre-season training with the club on July 5.

Ternent has always said he hoped Robertson would extend his stay at Turf Moor after he impressed the Burnley boss sufficiently to earn a new deal.

The Australian under-23 international, who was signed by Chris Waddle 18 months ago after unsuccesful trial spells with Rangers and Nottingham Forest, made 19 starting appearances last season despite the disruption of a double hernia operation.

And while he faces the prospect of extra competition for places in the Clarets midfield next season, the 22-year-old seems ready to pin his colours to the mast.

In fact, Robertson, who could also provide Ternent with an option in the right wing-back position, welcomed the prospect of more new signings to help Burnley mount a promotion challenge.

Keeping Robertson would be a welcome boost for the Clarets as the player looks to have a bright future ahead of him. But that won't stop Ternent continuing his search for reinforcements, with Paul Cook the next in the frame for a midfield berth.

Ternent said that it remains early days for transfer business with players still weighing up their options and he doesn't expect things to take off for another couple of weeks.

One player who won't be coming to Turf Moor, however, is Crewe defender Chris Lightfoot.

The 29-year-old had been linked with moves to Burnley and Preston, but has opted to stay at Gresty Road by signing a new two-year deal.

Adrian Heath is back as the front-runner to land the vacant manager's job at Sheffield United.

Blades fans protested when former Wales manager Bobby Gould was tipped for the job and ex-Clarets boss Heath has been reinstalled as favourite.

John Ward, Heath's number two from their days in charge at Turf Moor, has accepted a two-year contract as assistant manager at Wolves.

He will be right-hand man to Colin Lee, who has agreed a deal to stay in charge at Molineux until the summer of 2001, with the positions due to be confirmed at a lunch-time Press conference today.
