ANDY White will roll back the years tonight when he takes part in the last four of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph-sponsored Harold Ryden Trophy.

The Pleasington member, who turned 36 on Sunday, last made it through to the semi-finals of East Lancashire's most prestigious tournament back in 1985.

But he's aiming to go one better tonight when he takes on former champion Andy Samuels of Burnley for a place in tomorrow night's final.

"It feels absolutely fantastic to make it through to the semis," said White.

"Anyone who knows me knows how much my golf means to me, so to get this far in a competition like this is brilliant.

"It would mean the world to me to go on and win it.

"But it's going to be tough because Andy Samuels will be playing on his home course, so I know I will have to raise my game and get some birdies if I want to beat him." White made it through to the last four after a dramtic extra hole victory over Nelson's Tony Flanagan last night.

The 36-year-old stormed ahead on the early holes and was three up after four.

But Flanagan showed his mettle to close the gap, despite a succession of pars from White, and levelled the match on the 18th by winning the last two holes.

White won the extra hole, though, to book his place in the semi-finals - 14 years after his last appearance in the last four.

Samuels also won on the 19th to end Tony Holt's dreams of retaining the title he won at Pleasington last year after a tense contest between the two former champions.

And fellow Burnley member Cliff Hopwood joined Samuels in the last four by finishing one up in his quarter-final clash with Nelson's Gary Blades.

Shaw Hill's Nick Hopwood completes the semi-final quartet after finishing one up against Darwen's Gary Phillipson, who had high hopes of improving on last season's runners-up spot against Holt.

Tonight's semi-finals at Burnley GC tee-off at 5.30pm.
