IT is interesting that Councillor Simon Danczuk has confessed (LET, June 10) to being one of the art experts who chose the naked stone man on behalf of the rest of us in Blackburn with Darwen.

His comments about local schools being consulted was classic Labour sham. When a councillor and school governor tells children what's best for them, they don't usually argue - at least not to his face. I'll bet, however, there was wholesale sniggering behind his back.

Coun Danczuk well knows that I taught physical education for many years, and encountered more real bare bottoms in that time than he's had hot dinners. A big stone one isn't likely to turn me into a prude.

I still maintain that this degrading sculpture does not say "Welcome" to visitors, although I will concede it may become a popular landmark - for attracting unwelcome graffiti as has happened once before. What motorists will christen the junction that is sited near is likely to be unprintable.

If this is Coun Danczuk's idea of pride in the borough, I and many others would suggest it is he who has hit . . . well, rock bottom.
