VILLAGERS in Guide have been asked if they want to attend an inquiry into plans to build a large commercial development.

The campaign group, set up to oppose the building of a hotel, sport/health centre, petrol filling station and other development, on land off Haslingden Road, wants to know how many people want to attend the inquiry, which begins on July 26.

At a pre-inquiry meeting held a month ago, the government inspector told campaigners that a night sitting of the inquiry may be held if residents cannot make it to an ordinary session because they are at work.

Campaigners leafleted householders throughout Guide to gauge how many people want to have their say.

Spokesman for the action group, Pat Kennedy, said: "We would like to have it sorted out as soon as possible, so if people would be kind enough to get in touch and tell us what their intentions are we will be able to make a start."

The group previously made a protest that the date set for the inquiry was in the middle of Blackburn holidays, when many villagers will be away on holiday.
