RIDERS from Astley & Tyldesley Cycle Speedway produced their best show of the season to hit runners-up spot in the final match of the North/Midlands round of the British Junior League.

Danny Black won all his four races at U11s and was then second in the Grand Prix final, while Robert Black, Mark Marshall and debut ace Nathan Jones all scored well at U13s.

Damien Hack dropped just one point at U16s before winning his Grand Prix final, and Martin Phillips was second in the U19s Grand Prix final.

Final score: Wednesfield 141, A&T 106, Sandwell 71, Bury 62, Tameside 38, Stoke 21.

Scorers: Danny Black 16, Damien Hack 15, Robert Black 14, Mark Marshall 13, Nathan Jones 12, Martin Phillips 12, Darren Blakeley 8, Matthew Helme 8, Sean Daltry 8.

At the end of the regional series A&T were placed third, missing out on the national series.

But Daltry qualified to ride in the individual U11s Grand Prix series, Robert Black at U13s, Damien Hack (U16s) and Martin Phillips and David Farley (U19s).

A week earlier A&T beat Sheffield 76-74 in a thrilling North/Midlands Second Division match.

Damien Hack, Lee Smethills and Martin Phillips were all in supreme form.

Robert Black recorded three wins and two falls, while the points scored by youngsters Danny Black and Sean Daltry proved crucial.
