FOURTEEN youngsters from Tyldesley SC swam for Central Lancashire at the Inter-Association Gala at Everton Park.

And the team, which finished runners-up to Liverpool & District, was captained by 15-year-old Stuart Carlisle.

The Tyldesley lad was among the medallists in a meeting of high quality sport when he took silver with a fine swim in the 200 backstroke (PB, NQT).

Leanne Watmough, 15, produced a stunning semi-final in the 200 breaststroke, hitting a PB and smashing the old record; she followed with another great swim, but lost out in the touch and had to settle for silver.

Tyldesley's youngest swimmer at 11 was Kasha Hampson, a double gold winner in the 100 and 200 freestyles, both in PBs.

Gold also went to Jessica Howarth, 14, in the 100 freestyle and Kate Ward in the 100 butterfly (PB, NQT).

Khalid Jhugroo, 14, claimed a hat-trick of silvers in the 200 breaststroke, 200 and 400 IM with PBs and NQTs in each event.

Jessica Howarth's efforts in the 200 butterfly led her to her first NQT - as well as silver and a PB.

There were bronzes, too, for Leanne (100 freestyle, PB), Khalid in the 100 and 200 (PBs, NQTs), Kasha in the 200 IM and Jessica in the 100 butterfly (PB).

Also gaining Top 8 positions were Maria Hampson in the 200 butterfly (PB), Nicola Jones in the 400 freestyle (PB) and Stephanie Thompson in the 200 breaststroke.

Competing the Tyldesley line-up were Michelle Greensmith, Mark Hurst, Samantha Thompson and Sarah Wood plus reserve swimmer Charlotte Steele.
