TERRY Wynn believes voters should be given a 'real incentive' to take part in elections (writes Malcolm Ryding).
After being re-elected to the European Parliament in an election with a 19.6% regional turnout, Mr Wynn said something had to be done to entice people to vote at all types of election ranging from council to European.
And his idea: a cash-back hand-out.
"In some countries it is compulsory to vote. Why can't we give out voters some incentive to go to the ballot box.
"At local elections, for instance, you could get a £10 cash back on your Council Tax for everyone who votes in your house.
"Just think, a fortnight after you cast your vote a family of, say five, could get a £50 cheque dropping through their letter box!"
