A DOG owner has told of his horror after part of his finger was bitten off by another dog.

David Leaver, 32, of Swift Close, Blackburn, said he was walking his Staffordshire bull terrier cross, Genghis, and his friend's pit bull terrier, Sheba, in Corporation Park when he was bitten by a golden retriever. He said as they were walking out of the park towards Preston New Road, an elderly man approached with the golden retriever and the dogs started playing together.

He said he had just got hold of his dog when the golden retriever bit off the end of his finger.

He said the dog's owner walked off without asking if he was all right and left him in a state of shock.

Mr Leaver said: "I want to appeal for anybody who has seen this man to contact me, as I've seen him walking his dog before in Corporation Park.

"The man was about 70 years old, and clean shaven. He was wearing a hat and a tweed overcoat. His light coloured retriever had a name like Bobby.

"I thought a man that age would not just walk off like that without seeing if I was all right first. That really shocked me."

Mr Leaver said he could not find the end of his finger in the park and spent the night in Blackburn Infirmary.

A police spokesman said: "The matter has been recorded by police and is now under investigation."
